Mrs. Field’s Closet was founded to honor the legacy of Mrs. Becky Field—a beloved school counselor whose compassion and unwavering belief in the potential of every student left a lasting impact on the Minot community. She understood that when basic needs are met, students can focus on learning, growing, and building a brighter future.

Our mission is to empower youth by providing essential life necessities like hygiene products, school supplies, and clothing ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive with dignity and confidence. We are committed to creating safe, welcoming spaces within our schools where students feel supported, seen, and valued.

This work is fueled by the generosity of donors, volunteers, and community members who believe in a child’s right to succeed. Every donated item and every dollar contributed helps us fill the gap between need and access.

Story of a 5th-Grade Student

“A 5th-grade boy, who began using the closet back when he was in 2nd grade in my classroom, has relied on it for many of his needs over the years. Coming from a large family with several siblings who sometimes lived in foster care and, at other times, with additional family members, his home life was often challenging. He used the closet to access essentials like shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hairbrushes, combs, detangler, winter gloves, and jackets. What stood out was his sense of empowerment; he felt confident asking not only for himself but also for his siblings. His leadership shone through in two memorable instances when he brought other peers down to the closet, introducing them to me and explaining how it worked so they, too, could get the help they needed. This closet became a source of empowerment for him and others, offering support in difficult circumstances, helping to break cycles of poverty, and reminding students that someone cared and was there to support them.”
